VISTA Summer Associates
Teens Act is a nonprofit based in Provo with a mission to empower underserved high school students to graduate from high school and go on to higher education. We are looking for passionate individuals to teach and implement the VISTA Summer Associate Teens Act program. If you have good teaching, leadership, and communication skills as well as a passion for helping teenagers succeed, please apply! As a VISTA Summer Associate
, you can make a tangible difference by preventing summer learning loss among low-income youth and others at risk. Research has consistently shown that one of the best ways to help an individual from poverty is to improve their educational outcomes. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national program where community members have the opportunity to serve in local nonprofits helping to eliminate poverty. Become an United Way AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate with Teens Act. 
(Currently filled June-August)

Responsibilities:   
  • Assist students to prepare for higher education by providing a program services that connects student high school completion with higher education through college and career readiness services, working collaboratively through the United Way AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate program
  • Mentor and tutor students
  • Track student performance and report on student progress
  • Work with other mentor-tutors
  • Attend weekly Team Meetings
  • Assist Teens Act through community connections for development

Qualifications:
  • Be at least 18 years of age  
  • Associates must serve on a full-time basis (30 +, no more that 40 hours per week) during the project period
  • Associates must not be listed on the National Sex Offenders Public Registry 
  • Be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Passion and enthusiasm for the role of education
  • Previous experience in teaching, mentoring, or working with at-risk youth is a plus
  • Consistent time commitment and reliable
  • College level skills preferred in order to help students with their school work
  • Spanish proficiency a plus

Benefits:
  • Living Allowance of $1,040 a month pre-taxes
  • At the end of successful service, the VISTA can choose an Education Award of $1,289.95 or a cash stipend of approximately $345.80. The Educational Award can be used for student loans
  • Can count what hours you need of the position towards an internship

Position: (Positions are filled for Summer 2020)
Senior Support- Provide services that are designed to help high school students who did not complete their high school graduation requirements by the end of May to finish their requirements during the summer.
and
College Connection- Provide high school students with assigned mentors and program services that assist students in their high school completion and with participation in higher education through a college and career readiness program.


The position has an a start date of June 15th, serving for 10 weeks ending the second to third week of August.

Teens Act Office 363 N. University Ave. Suite 108 Provo, Ut. 84601 and online locations to work with students from Provo High School (1199 Lakeshore Dr., Provo, UT 84601), Timpview High School (3570 Timpview Dr., Provo, UT 84604) and Independence High School (636 Independence Ave, Provo, UT 84601)
