Parent Support

GOALS
  • Build relationships with the parents of our students based on trust and respect for their role in the life of their students
  • Collaborate with parents to find solutions to obstacles that would inhibit Teens Act students from graduating from high school and going on to college
  • Use the best curriculum and community resources available to include in our discussion of how to overcome obstacles
  • Empower parents by providing opportunities for leadership within the Parent Support Program and through being a part of the Teens Act Advisory Board

STANDARD
Teens Act mentors will make contact with parents of students in our Student Success Class as well as other students that Teens Act supports throughout the school on a regular basis (at least once every month) to ensure that as many parents as possible are familiar with the work of Teens Act in behalf of their students, and to receive the supports they may need.  Contacts can be made via notes home, emails, phone/text messages. When it is determined that mentors are to make home visits the mentors will work alongside Provo School District Parent Liaisons to provide support to students and their families. Mentors will also encourage parents to  attend Parent Nights as often as possible.

WHAT TO DO TO SET UP VISITS
To arrange visits contact a Provo District Parent Liaison. After contacting the Liaison decide together when to make appointments with parents. When appointments are set please put them on the calendar that is on this page, include your name, the name of the family, and their address. If one Liaison is unable to accompany you then reach out to another to go with you. If that does not work contact Teens Act staff to identify who will accompany you. Please do not go on your own Thank you!
Please refer to the Volunteer Schedule at Volunteer Support and go to the tab on the bottom of the doc named 2019-20 Parent/Family Support.

Teens Act partners with other organizations and parent support programs in the districts and communities to support our parents/families.
Some of the topics that can be discussed with parents individually or as a group may include:
  1. Financial Aid/FAFSA/Scholarships
  2. College Prep
  3. Local Utah colleges that your student could look into
  4. How to help your student with homework
  5. Resources and activities in our community that can help (United Way, Centro Hispano, Health Department, Strong Families, etc.)

-Also be prepared to discuss some of the obstacles the parent(s) and their students may be facing.
